How did the idea for your business come about?
Laura Bolton: Having worked in hospitality and reinsurance previously, I was looking for something that allowed me to be a bit more creative, while also providing constant challenges. I have always enjoyed designing and decorating homes, so it’s fun to be able to transfer that passion into my daily life.
What is the significant difference your business brings to the market?
Laura Bolton: Having a place to live is a basic human need- and finding that perfect place isn’t always easy. As professionals, we offer the service of assisting landlords to rent their properties- by essentially playing matchmaker- finding a suitable tenant for their property!
How did you decide on the location for your business?
Laura Bolton: Although I do have a desk at our office in Hamilton, just as much of my time ‘at the office’ is spent in the car or on the phone. It’s important to be physically located in Hamilton so clients and customers can easily reach us, but it’s also vital to be mobile and easily accessible via phone and email when out on the road.
How important have good employees been to your success?
Laura Bolton: As an employee myself, I am part of a large team at Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty. Our diverse team of real estate professionals includes sales agents, commercial agents, appraisers, property managers, holiday rental specialists, surveyors and a wonderful support staff and all of these people are extremely important to my success as a rental agent.
Describe/outline your typical day?
Laura Bolton: In real estate, every day is different- that’s what I love about it. I try to spend the mornings at the office to send emails and use the database here. The afternoons are usually spent on the road- farming flyers (putting them in mailboxes), networking and showing properties.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
Laura Bolton: I would honestly say that the most satisfying moment is when a rental prospect walks into a property and knows that it is the perfect property for them! It’s an extremely rewarding feeling to know that I’ve helped someone find their new home.
What has been your most successful form of marketing?
Laura Bolton: My most successful form of direct marketing is farming- hitting the pavement and putting flyers into people’s mailboxes. Referrals from past clients and friends are also extremely important in this industry.
How do you build a successful customer base?
Laura Bolton: Real estate is all about having a large sphere of influence (SOI). I build this by networking and introducing myself to anyone and everyone I have the chance to meet. All this information is stored in our database so that I can communicate easily with my SOI, to keep them updated on the rental market and remind that that I’m here to help them with their real estate needs. Real Estate is all about building relationships!
What kind of culture exists in your organization?
Laura Bolton: Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty has a lovely family oriented culture. We are all part of a big family, and are very supportive of one another.
Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?
Laura Bolton: In ten years, I hope to be one of the premier real estate agents in Bermuda. By this time I will have established a large client base and hopefully, be well known in the community for providing excellent service.
